American Red Cross - Case Study

The Overview

Approx 350,0000 sudden cardiac arrest occur each year.

Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED)is the only effective treatment for restoring heart beat.

The Problem

When the protocol for CPR changed to include AED training, the American Red Cross was concerned with financially burdening their team of 60,000+ CPR trainers by pushing them to purchase AED training devices, which at the time cost over $500 from a handful of AED manufacturers.

With several different manufacturers producing both AED’s, as well as a scaled down AED training device, the American Red Cross needed a universal training device for their trainers at a fraction of the cost of the existing models.

The Solution

The American Red Cross training team reached out to Inkwell to design and manufacturer a Universal Interactive AED training device for their trainers, at a fraction of the cost of the existing models. After learning the needs and features necessary, Inkwell designers presented several concepts to the Red Cross. After designs and all interactive functionality was finalized, Inkwell produced prototypes and ultimately worked with engineers at one of our china factories and produced an American Red Cross AED training device. the final product.

The American Red Cross OEM AED training device is now the market leader with over 200,000 units sold to over 60,000 trainers at a retail price well under $100. This resulted in American Red Cross expanding their AED training program and in turn saving countless lives.

After the success of the American Red Cross training device, other International Red Cross Societies reached out to Inkwell and now Inkwell produces training devices for several other Red Cross societies including: French, Canadian, Dutch, Swiss, German and British Red Cross.
